Building on my work developing the BBC Account Design System, I took on responsibility for supporting all stages of the GEL Migration and Accessibility Upgrade across the BBC Account estate.

I began by leading a comprehensive audit, which uncovered numerous areas where existing experiences didn’t align with GEL guidelines or met only minimal accessibility standards. After reporting these findings, I worked to develop reactive updates using the reusable framework I’d established with the Account Design System.

We created a new component library that fully met GEL standards and collaborated closely with developers to support implementation across key journeys.

As a result, the BBC’s Sign In and Registration experience – critical to how audiences access BBC services – is now significantly more accessible, inclusive, and consistent. The barrier to signing in has been meaningfully lowered, helping ensure more people can access the BBC’s offerings with ease.
